The Hueray Story
It doesn’t take much to squash creativity.
A single comment.
A look.
A rule that says “that’s not how we do things here.”
Most of us learned early on that standing out could come with consequences - so we learned to shrink ourselves, follow the lines, and keep the colours inside them.
But sometimes, even in the smallest moments, a spark tries to break through...
When I was five, I coloured in a cat.
It was pre-primary art class, and every kid was handed the same black-and-white cat outline to fill in.
Most of them reached for browns and blacks.
But not me.
I grabbed every crayon in sight and made mine a full-spectrum rainbow cat.
Because why not? Colour was fun. It felt like magic.
I was completely immersed — proud of my creation.
Until the teacher walked over… and told me to colour over it.
“Cats aren’t rainbow,” she said.
“Yours needs to match the others so we can put them on the wall.”
And then she literally handed me a brown crayon.
So the rainbow cat was scribbled over.
And just like that, the spark went out.
My creativity - and my confidence - got smaller that day.
And for years, I held back. Played it safe.
Wondered if being different meant being wrong.
The turning point...
It's wild how something so small can stay with you.
A moment like that can shape how we see ourselves - and how much permission we give ourselves to be creative, expressive, bold.
For a long time, I didn’t give myself that permission.
I kept things safe. Quiet. Palatable.
But then I had kids.
And I watched them create with total freedom - no fear, no self-doubt, no one telling them to colour inside the lines.
Just joy. Fire. Magic.
And I realised… that spark is still in me too.
The more I encouraged their creativity, the more I began to reclaim my own.
I started caring less about what others thought - and more about what I thought.
Because I’m their role model.
And I want to be a damn good one.
Fast forward to now...
Hueray was born to bring that rainbow cat back to life.
To remind us all that creativity isn’t about fitting in.
It’s about letting go, choosing colour, and trusting your spark.
Hueray exists for anyone who was ever told:
- “That’s not how it’s supposed to look.”
- “You’re doing it wrong.”
- Or even worse… “You’re not creative.”
We’re here to say:
- You are creative.
- Colour is for you.
- And your ideas deserve to take up space.
This is your permission slip to create joyfully. Messily. Colourfully.
It doesn’t matter how old you are, what tools you use, or what it looks like - you were made to create.
You belong in this rainbow rebellion.

Our Journey so far
THE SPARK
2021
Born as a family business by Brenna and Clint, we were originally named "Watch Them Bloom". The name was inspired by watching our children explore and create with colour.
Our ethos was simple: Imagine. Create. Explore.
With the arrival of our first machine, we began experimenting with kids’ crafts and colourful signs featuring positive quotes. There was a lot of experimentation with new products and we primarily sold in bulk to places such as Bunnings for kids craft workshops.
We are wildly passionate about Australian manufacturing and wanted to see what we could create right here in our backyard, and inspire other brands to support Australian manufacturing.
FIRST STEPS & BIG GROWTH
2022
This was a year filled with markets and festivals. 2022 saw us producing for Bunnings WA, shopping centres, festivals, day care centres and group craft activities.
We built our first eCommerce website in July 2022 - a huge vertical learning curve!
Our first big market and festival was the Bull and Barrel Festival, where our stall was buzzing all day. Families came searching us out after the children’s activity tent had run out of our crafts items.
Our Signature product the engraved colour in art boards were born, becoming an instant hit with both children and adults alike and continuing to be one of our best sellers to date.
EXPANDING OUR VISION
2023
In 2023 we continued to grow our community and council partnerships.
We saw the rising demand for products that weren’t just “for kids,” but tapped into adult creativity too. We expanded our range of art boards to include more complex Huetangle designs and loved watching families do them together.
We started being approached by other brands to design and manufacture products for them. This saw us create great relationships with some brands, and learn many important lessons around IP protection.
TIME TO REFOCUS
2024
With the surge in popularity of the products we were designing and manufacturing for other brands we were run off our feet!
This was our year of little sleep, new warehouses and a growing team. We increased our capacity with new machines and continued to innovate our product lines and capabilities.
We recognised that with the growth of our manufacturing side, we had left little time to focus on our own retail products, and decided to separate the business out from the manufacturing arm and rebrand our direct to consumer side of the business.
Just when it felt like there weren't enough hours in the day, the decision to move production off shore by some of our manufacturing customers opened up time for us to really focus on this new era for what would become Hueray.
Brenna enrolled in an eCommerce marketing course with Karyn from Unstoppable eCommerce, who would later go on to join the team.
HUERAY WAS BORN 🥳
2025
At the start of 2025 Brenna reached out to Karyn to see if she would help with their marketing of the rebranded retail side. Karyn proposed instead that she join the team and they grow the business together... obviously we said yes!
We spent months finding the perfect name for the new vision. After many (MANY) text exchanges, Zoom calls, shower ideas and the odd conversation with ChatGPT we came up with "Hueray". Hueray, pronounced 'hue-ray' (but also like 'hooray') means 'A celebration of colour', and we couldn't love it more.
The year saw us plan new product lines, step more into DIY Decor and the world of Dopamine Decor, rebrand to Hueray, build this colourful new website, create new packaging and finally launch our new Hueray era. We're so excited to have you on this colourful, fun journey with us!
